Booster Seat Legislation

On July 1, 2008 new child passenger safety legislation came into effect in British Columbia.  The new regulations affect travel in all passenger vehicles for all children under 9 years of age or 4'9" in height.  These regulations, designed, to help keep our students safer, will affect the use of volunteer drivers on school field trips.

BC Field Trips has worked with BCAA Traffic Safety Foundation to create a plain language document that helps teachers, parents and administrators understand these new rules and makes suggestions of simple, reasonable cost solutions.

Teachers, download our FAQ regarding the new booster seat legislation and how it affect school field trips for posting on your school field trip bulletin board. For our exhibitors, consider posting it as a link on your own website or distributing it in your summer mailouts to teachers.

Get informed, and then continue to enjoy 'taking learning on the road' as you plan for another year of great field trip experiences with your students. For general information about child car seat safety, visit BCAA Traffic Safety Foundation.
