Guided Heritage Tours (Gr 7 -12)

Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site

Discover the stories of a diverse fishing, canning, and boat building community at the scenic Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site on the shores of the Fraser River. This one-hour guided tour is led by a Heritage Interpreter, and includes introductions to the heritage buildings which illustrated the living and working conditions of the communities that made Steveston the special place it is today.

Hazards in My Home (grades 1 - 2)

Langley Environmental Partners Society

Students become Hazard Detectives and identify which household hazardous products can be harmful by matching symbols with meanings. They also learn how household hazardous products can be harmful outside the home and learn safer choices for us and the environment. Students participate in making a Greener Cleaner for their classroom.

LEPS workshops take place in YOUR CLASSROOM in LANGLEY, ABBOTSFORD or SURREY school districts.

Heritage Christmas Edukit

Historic Stewart Farm

Students explore a Victorian holiday experience from their classroom. By creating vintage wooden crafts, exploring the Stewart’s late 1800s holiday traditions, other newcomer who lived on the farm, and learning about the diverse holiday celebrations of our community students will tie traditions of the past to our community today. Two-week rental.

Heritage Square Tours

Mackin Heritage House

These outdoor tours get you moving and enjoying the Maillardville community at large. With our Heritage Garden tour you can visit our garden learning about the plants and history of gardens in general followed by a herb satchel activity. During our Maillardville Community Walk learn the history of Maillardville & Fraser Mills as you walk along Brunette Avenue to Laval Square. (Some uphill walking required)

Mackin Heritage House

Bringing the past to you! In the comfort of your own space, Mackin House staff will lead a history lesson using PowerPoint, an activity, and a bin full of historical Artifacts. A great interactive learning experience for all ages, participants can handle and engage with artifacts, ask questions, form group discussions and enjoy fun activities related to the artifact's historical context. Home and Belonging in Chinatown

Chinatown Storytelling Centre

How did Chinese immigrant communities maintain a sense of identity and overcome the challenges of discrimination to settle in Vancouver’s Chinatown? How did they strive to create a sense of home and belonging?

Students will explore these questions by engaging with our interactive exhibits and touchable teaching collection. By investigating historic photos, head tax certificates, cultural artefacts, and personal belongings, students will be introduced to discriminatory policies that define the Chinese Canadian experience as well as the community’s diligent efforts to overcome them.

Total length: 1 - 2 hours

Grade levels: 4-6

Cost per student: $8 (1 adult chaperone per 5 students may visit for free)

Homeschool and Bubble Groups Educational Field Trips

Britannia Mine Museum

Enhance your visit to Britannia Mine Museum by adding on the 30 minute Homeschool Session Earthly Explorers.

General admission gives you access to the guided underground tour, BOOM! show, gold panning and all the onsite exhibits. The cost to add on the Homeschool session Earthly Explorers’ to your general admission visit is $10 per person (Min of $50 payable if under 5 people). You can view Museum rates here.

Included in this price are the following:

A 30 minute additional session with one of our educators focusing on Grade 5 Science and teaching the curriculum Big Idea “Earth materials change as they move through the rock cycle and can be used as natural resources.”
Time to pick the brains of our interpreters on questions you may have about the topics you encounter on your visit.
A support package to use onsite and in the classroom.

How We Lived-Immigration Stories (Gr 4-6)

Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site

Step into the shoes of a history detective to discover the diverse experiences of immigrants who tried to make Steveston their home. First, students will explore four historical houses through a scavenger hunt. After a short break, the adventure continues with an immersive activity where each group delves into a unique immigrant story. Armed with historical documents and fascinating artifacts like a typewriter, a radio or a washboard, students will piece together the narrative of their chosen immigrant group and uncover how settlers from different countries faced different challenges to build their new home.
