Discover the the VSO’s headquarters for virtual learning and performance: The Music Room. It includes VSO concert programs designed especially for young audiences with accompanying educational resources and learning guides, added regularly throughout the VSO season.
Here’s what you’ll find in The Music Room this year:
- Elementary School Concerts: An expanded selection of fun, educational and interactive musical experiences for grades K-7, delivered right to your school or home!

- Little Kids Concerts For young children aged 0-4 and their grown-ups, featuring plenty of singing, clapping and movement.

- Backstage Pass The Backstage Pass gives you the inside scoop on featured music and the fascinating
people who bring it to life. In this area of The Music Room, you’ll find a variety of digital resources including interviews, behind the scenes videos, and much more about our music and musicians. Additionally, you can
view a series of interactive Virtual VSO Connects videos designed for school and home learners of all ages added throughout the year.

How does it work? The Music Room is subscription-based, with full-year classroom subscriptions including access to all education concerts and resources starting at $75+tax.

Talk to local animals, complete mini activities, and use body movements to get closer to solving the mystery, while learning how reducing plastic pollution and eating sustainable seafood can turn you into a superhero too!

The Virtual Aquaclass is an opportunity for students to connect live with an Ocean Wise educator without having to leave the classroom.

Standard programs are $100 per 45-minute sessions and include a Q&A time between students and our expert staff. Choose from our wide variety of programs.

The Virtual Aquaclass is an opportunity for students to connect live with a Vancouver Aquarium educator without having to leave the classroom.

Primary, Intermediate, Secondary

Students will be introduced to the phyla Cephalopoda and the key characteristics that make this group of squids, octopuses, and cuttlefish so spectacular by joining our expert educator for a live squid dissection. Through an examination of the squid’s anatomy students will discuss how an animal’s adaptation helps them to survive in their environment.

*Dissection specimen may differ based on availablility.

The first in a series of community Edukits and created in collaboration with members of Surrey's Punjabi community, this kit will explore aspects of history, immigration, arts, music, language, food, clothing, celebrations, stories and Surrey residents.  

Learn about the objects, stories and lives of Chinese immigrants and those they interacted with in early Vancouver.

This program is a perfect resource for classroom studies on Chinese immigration to Canada. Students will discuss the issues surrounding early Chinese immigration, watch a short video, look through our immigration suitcases and use critical thinking skills to draw conclusions and create a short presentation. 

This program pairs very well with our Chinatown Walking Tour, exploring the architecture and stories from the early days of Chinatown as well as the vibrant community it is today.

Please note this program takes place inside the Ming Dymasty Scholar's Garden but does not include a Garden Tour. Garden Tours can be booked as a separate add-on.

A Year on the Farm helps your students develop deep connections with the land through the cycles of the seasons as they explore how plants grow and how weather and seasonal changes affect life on the farm. Classes in the program will have the opportunity to plant in their own plot on the farm and visit the farm nearly monthly through the school year. Please see our website for more details. 

Can't visit the gallery? The School Art Program has created classroom art kits to bring the exciting world of contemporary art into the classroom or home classroom.  Each kit is a combination of online content plus specialty art supplies for each student.  The online content contains videos of our art educators guiding students step by step through 3-5 different art lessons which are all connected by the themes of our gallery exhibitions. Also included are virtual exhibition tours and video interviews with gallery artists and a teacher guide so students can learn about contemporary Canadian Artists and connect their work and experiences to the exhibition artworks.  For more information or to book a kit check out our gallery website.
