From towering forests to sandy seashores, regional parks are filled with fun, hands-on learning environments. Park interpreters lead field trips outdoors for about 2 hours. Students are engaged in discovery, activities and games related to the topic.

Program Description & Details

The new Virtual Classroom program provides students with an opportunity to learn about the Legislative Assembly in a fun and engaging way from the comfort of their home computers or classroom. ​The interactive presentation is hosted by one of our Legislative Guides and includes lots of fun stories and many interesting photos of the Parliament Buildings from the time of its construction up to today. Students will learn about the key people who work in the Legislative Assembly, how a bill becomes a law, and the important symbols of the Legislative Assembly.​

The kit includes historical artefact replicas, primary and secondary source documents, and sample lesson plans suitable for students from grades 5 to 12. Beaver Lake is one of Vancouver’s last natural wetlands, and it is home to incredible plants and animals. What makes the wetland ecosystem a good place to live? How do diverse communities of animals eat their way along the food chain? Roll up your sleeves and explore Beaver Lake wildlife up close with dip nets, magnifiers and games.

Program Description & Details

Visit the Lumberman’s Arch beach at low tide and explore the incredibly diverse and abundant life in the intertidal zone. Low tide offers us a glimpse at fascinating animals and plants that have adapted to life in and out of the sea. Hunt for crabs, sort seaweeds, and find out what else lives or eats on the seashore, while students discover important human connections to the oceans. Beach Explorers is a tide-dependent program and is available in spring between April and June. Please contact us for available dates.

Get interactive with our displays as you find the answers to the scavenger hunt questions and decode the secret message. Receive a small prize when you complete the Eco Quest booklet and then enjoy a nature video in our theatre.

Program Description & Details

Written to support distance learning but also useful for physically distanced teaching, a Tech-Up Learning Kit contains resources for both synchronous and/or asynchronous lessons. The teacher guide walks you through leading student activities over a series of sessions of approximately 30-45 minutes. Student activities are handouts for students to work through on their own as assigned, according to your own timeline and discretion.

In these activities, students will be introduced to thinking algorithmically which is an essential skill for learning how to code. They will be explore the algorithms of dance, create algorithms to successfully navigate an obstacle course, and examine different algorithms while moving through and acting out a choose your own adventure story.
