The Native Voice was the first newspaper to focus on Indigenous issues in Canada. Through four case studies, students critically analyse articles from The Native Voice and other newspapers to look at the topics of Indigenous rights and land title in British Columbia. This program has been organized with the Squamish Nation Education Department and made possible in part through a grant from the Museums Assistance Program, Department of Canadian Heritage.

Your students will:

  • Analyze archival and contemporary newspaper articles relating to Indigenous rights and land title.
  • Answer and discuss critical thinking questions to develop a deeper understanding of the topic.

Secondary level students will critically analyze both archival and contemporary newspaper articles relating to aboriginal rights and land title in British Columbia. This program presents the story of native activism in the mid-twentieth century through the lens of one individual (Maisie Hurley, 1887-1962), founder of the Native Voice newspaper.

Learn about the incredible characteristics of a winter ecosystem through fun, nature focused games. On snowshoes! Combine with Tubing or Tobogganing for a full day! New*snowshoe location for K-3's. Meet us at Enquist Lodge and enjoy quicker access to easier trails. Ask about where to stay and play in the snow afterwards!

Program Description & Details

On your last walk through nature, what did you notice? What did you wonder? In this program students will explore the connections between living things within their local environment (Kingdom Plantae). They will learn the connection between science and our communities and how they can begin to identify plants in their everyday lives. Students will learn some of the key identifiers of each sub-category in the Kingdom Plantae and use these skills on a nature walk. This information can then be used in the classroom to further investigate plants and find connections between plants, and between people and nature.

Grades: 2-7              Length: 1.5 – 2 hours                Maximum group size: 30 students

As classes plant and tend vegetables at local community gardens, students learn about soil and composting, discover the needs of plants, and become environmental stewards.  Throughout the series, they will develop an awareness of environmental issues and social responsibiility as they learn about local food security.  Food grown and harvested is donated to local food banks.

This workshop series will be 4 sessions, administered outside, and masks are required for all students.  All workshop supplies will be sanitized after every single presentation.

What is diversity and why is it important? Learn the four components of habitat – food, water, shelter and space. Students will explore concepts related to food chains and will discover some of the ways that humans impact ecosystems. Optional bird house building. Cost: $7.00 each.

Program Description & Details

Nordic: At Manning Park Resort, Nordic skiers can explore over 60 km of classic and skate ski groomed trails, as well as 160 km of backcountry trails. This is cross-country skiing at its finest—in forests and valleys, with a scenic mountain backdrop. Equipment rentals and lessons are available. The Nordic Centre also offers guided cross-country skiing and snowshoeing tours. 


Snowshoeing at Manning Park Resort is a fun and adventurous way to get into the park. With access to over 300km of trails for individuals of all abilities, individuals new to snowshoeing can follow marked trails through the surrounding forest.  Equipment rentals are available.

Guided excursions: We offer both day and evening excursions with our friendly and knowledgeable guides. Prices are based on group numbers, and packages are available with or without rental equipment.

Ice Skating: Ice skating at Manning Park Resort is available to all our guests when our outdoor rink is open. We also have everything you need to rent for a day of skating or a rousing game of hockey, including skates, hockey sticks, helmets and soft pucks. To protect guest safety, hard pucks are not permitted on the rink.  See our friendly staff at the Nordic Centre for all equipment rentals. Please note that access to the outdoor rink is weather dependent. The ice rink can be reserved exclusively by request.
